Getting started
How to go from a new account to your app running on your phone.
Before you start
- A computer with your project on it and the tools to run its dev server.
- A phone or tablet with iOS and iPadOS 16.4 or later, or Android 7.0 (API 24) or later, on 64-bit ARM devices.
- The phone and the computer on the same network, for example the same Wi-Fi.
1. Create your account
Go to console.intersink.com and sign up with your email address. Then create a business and a channel for your app. If a teammate already has one, they can add you to it instead.
Every channel your account can work on shows up in Opedev as a project. You manage projects, keys and settings in the console, never in the app.
2. Install Opedev
Opedev is in testing and is coming to the App Store and Google Play. This page will link to both stores once it is released.
3. Sign in
- Open Opedev and tap Sign in.
- Enter your email and tap Send code.
- Type the 6-digit code from the email. It works for 15 minutes.
- If your account has two-step verification, enter that code as well.
Your projects appear under Your Intersink projects, grouped by business. You can also choose Continue without an account and open a dev server on your own network.
4. Start your dev server
On your computer, start your project’s dev server from the project folder, for example:
npx expo startIt prints a QR code and an address such as 192.168.1.20:8081.
5. Open your project
- Tap Scan QR code and point the camera at the QR code. The camera is used only to read the code, and the picture stays on your phone.
- Or tap Open address and type the address. Opedev also opens
opedev://links.
Your app loads. Edit a file and save, and the change appears on the phone. Projects you open are listed under Recently opened.
What Opedev opens
- A dev server on your computer or your local network:
localhost, private addresses such as192.168.x.xor10.x.x.x, and.localnames. - Channels your signed-in account has access to.
Opedev refuses public internet addresses and channels that belong to other accounts, and tells you why.
Native code
A wide set of native modules is built into Opedev. A project written only in JavaScript runs as it is. If your project adds native code of its own that Opedev doesn’t include, you will need your own native build for that project.
When your app hits an error
Opedev shows the error message, the code and the stack. From there you can tap Reload project after fixing the code, Copy details to paste the error somewhere else, or go Back to projects.
If Opedev can’t connect
- Check that the phone and the computer are on the same network.
- Check the address matches what your dev server printed, including the port.
- On iPhone and iPad, allow Opedev to use the local network when it asks. You can change this later in the Settings app under Privacy & Security, Local Network.
- Make sure your computer’s firewall lets other devices reach the dev server’s port.
